CV Jozo Serdarević, M.A. (Dubrovnik, Croatia)


Professor of visual arts in Dubrovnik grammar-school.
Born in Dubrovnik in 1947. Having finished grammar school, graduates from the Dubrovnik Teachers’ Academy in 1968. In 1977 graduates Yugoslav literature and art history at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar. Finalizes post-graduate study of social-humanistic sciences from the field of history of science in 1987. Jozo Serdarević, M.A. has been the head of Unesco’s workshop since 1994. His work motivated many students of Dubrovnik grammar school, who used their spare time to work on cultural heritage preservation projects. Their works were recognized by numerous prizes like the Prize of the Town of Dubrovnik for 1997 for exceptional accomplishments in the framework of Unesco’s international project “Young people’s participation in world heritage promotion and preservation”.
His works were presented in numerous cities and countries, most significant of which are: Mimara museum in Zagreb, first forum of young people on world heritage in Bergen, Stockholm and Japan. The workshop realized more than 10 projects: Minčeta fort (1995/96), Ston and Mali Ston (1996/97), Franciscan monastery in Dubrovnik (1998/99), Town map with Dubrovnik coats of arms (1999/00), Goldsmithing in Dubrovnik (2000/01), etc. All projects were multi-disciplinary and presented on approximately fifty billboards.
He initiated the foundation of the school gallery, for which 53 works of art were collected.
In 1998 he established school paper “Info-đir”, which he is Editor-in –chief of. In 1999, he was awarded the order of Danica Hrvatske bearing the portrait of Stjepan Radić, for merits in the field of education. He was awarded the plaque of Dubrovačko-neretvanska County in 2001, for contributing to the reputation and promotion of the County. In cooperation with doctor Antun Karaman, he issued a handbook for professors of visual arts for Ist grade of grammar school.
